USDT on TON

USDT (Tether) is available natively on the TON blockchain, letting Telegram users send dollar‑pegged stablecoins instantly and without fees through the integrated Telegram Wallet.

Overview#

USDT on TON is a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, backed by reserves held by Tether. It can be transferred like a regular message in Telegram, requiring no wallet address and incurring no transaction fee. The token is supported by major TON wallets such as Telegram Wallet, Tonkeeper, and MyTonWallet.

The native USDT replaces the earlier wrapped version jUSDT (a TON jetton) and offers a smoother user experience.

History#

During the Token 2049 conference on 19 April 2024, Tether CEO Paolo Arduino, TOP CEO Andrew Rogozov, and Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced the integration of native USDT on TON.

By 11 August 2024, 619 million USDT were circulating on TON.

Technical Characteristics#

Transaction confirmation time on TON is approximately 5 seconds, compared with 10–15 seconds on Ethereum.
Fees are low relative to many other blockchains.
TON’s PoS consensus provides security for USDT transfers.
Tether conducts regular audits of its USD reserves.
