Society DAO is a Decentralized Autonomous Organization built on The Open Network (TON) that seeks to replace centralized governance with a community‑driven model, improving transparency, inclusivity, and resilience.
Purpose and Vision#
TON’s original design emphasized decentralization, but as the network expanded, centralized decision‑making created inefficiencies. Society DAO proposes a governance framework that distributes authority among developers, validators, and ecosystem contributors, aiming to create a competitive environment that encourages innovation and community empowerment.
Key principles include:
- Decentralization – reducing reliance on the TON Foundation to avoid single points of failure.
- Competition – ensuring at least two projects operate in each category to prevent monopolies.
- Transparency – publishing clear goals, proposals, and performance metrics.
- Community empowerment – shifting decision‑making to respected ecosystem participants.
Structure and Core Functions#
Society DAO coordinates several founding members that oversee core ecosystem functions.
TON Core
TON Core provides the underlying protocol, scalability, and security layers for TON. It maintains the open‑source codebase and supports developers building dApps. The entity behind TON Core Technologies LLC is incorporated in Dubai.
TON Society
TON Society manages community operations, acting as a bridge between developers, users, and governance structures. It upholds decentralization, transparency, and collaboration, and allocates resources, funding, and mentorship to support ecosystem growth.
TON Studio
TON Studio focuses on improving the developer experience by offering tools, resources, and support for dApp creation.
Wallet in Telegram
Wallet in Telegram aims to make blockchain services accessible to Telegram’s large user base, targeting broader adoption of cryptocurrency payments within the TON ecosystem.
Governance Mechanisms#
- Goal setting – ecosystem objectives are defined and reviewed every six months.
- Community proposals – members submit time‑bound solutions that are evaluated by specialized working groups.
- Grants and accountability – the TON Foundation funds approved projects, and grantees must meet defined outcomes.
Current Initiatives#
- Public debate and voting platform – planned for 2025 to enable on‑chain discussion and decision‑making using badge‑based reputation.
- User participation – over 3.6 million users were reported as engaged with Society DAO at the time of writing.
- Developer growth – TON Studio highlights milestones such as 12.4 million monthly active wallets.
- Telegram reach – Telegram hosts over 1 billion monthly active users, providing a potential audience for wallet adoption.
