Pump and dump은 대표적인 시장 조작 수법이다. 조직된 그룹이 특정 자산을 동시에 매수해 가격을 급등(펌프)시키고, FOMO 매수세를 유인한 뒤 고점에서 일제히 매도(덤프)한다. 뒤늦게 들어온 사람들이 폭락의 피해를 고스란히 떠안는다.

규제 시장에서는 불법이다. 크립토에서는 주로 Telegram 그룹을 통해 조직된다. 피해자는 펌프가 이미 시작된 이후에 매수한 사람들이다.
