TON Space

TON Space is a non‑custodial wallet on the TON blockchain that works alongside the custodial Telegram Wallet, giving users full control over their private keys while remaining accessible through Telegram.

Overview#

TON Space launched in September 2023. The interface supports several languages, including English, Chinese, Spanish, and Russian, and it is not available to U.S. citizens. Unlike Telegram Wallet, TON Space does not require user verification. Users cannot purchase cryptocurrency with a card directly in TON Space; they must first buy it in Telegram Wallet and then transfer it.

Within its first year, TON Space reached 10 million active users. By October 2024, the wallet surpassed 100 million users.

Features#

Setup & Wallet Management#

To create or import a TON Space wallet, you need an @wallet account in Telegram. Activate TON Space in the @wallet settings, then choose to create a new wallet or import an existing one.

When creating a wallet, a 12‑word seed phrase is displayed; write it down securely. After confirming the seed phrase, the wallet is ready. Funding the wallet triggers the deployment of a smart contract on the TON blockchain, incurring a small Toncoin fee.

Existing wallets can be imported using the saved seed phrase or via email (if the feature was previously enabled). Email import sends a six‑digit code to the registered address, allowing the same wallet to be used across multiple devices.

Deletion#

The smart contract created for a TON Space wallet remains on the blockchain and cannot be deleted. Users can remove the wallet from their Telegram account in the settings and later restore it by re‑importing the seed phrase.

App Integration#

Certain apps, such as Dogs, offer airdrops for connecting a TON Space wallet. Connected apps are listed in the “Connected Apps” section and can be removed or re‑connected at any time.

Fees#

Every transfer—whether Toncoin, Jetton, or NFT—incurs a small Toncoin fee. Sufficient Toncoin balance is required to cover these fees.

In July 2024, Tonkeeper introduced the W5 wallet standard, enabling fee payments with alternative tokens such as $USDT, $NOT, $HMSTR, $DOGS, and $CATI. These “gas‑free” transactions do not deduct Toncoin, which is convenient for new users who hold only USDT. The team also announced plans to support fee payments with Telegram Stars.

Staking#

TON Space integrates with Tonstakers for Toncoin staking. Users can deposit any amount, withdraw at any time, and receive rewards every 18 hours.
